Kyle J. Weary is recognized as a leader in teaching music literacy and contemporary commercial music. Kyle has been invited to present educational sessions at the State, Regional, and National levels. Kyle has presented in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Texas. Kyle’s articles on teaching music literacy and vocal pedagogy in the choral rehearsal have appeared in Choral Director Magazine. Kyle has earned nominations for the GRAMMY music educator award in 2018 and 2016 where he advanced as a quarterfinalist both times. In 2015, Kyle was nominated for Washington County’s Teacher of the Year.

 

Kyle currently teaches in West Shore School District as an Elementary Music Specialist and is the Director of Music at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg.

 

Previously, Kyle was the Director of Choirs and founder of the Vocal Music Program at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. At Barbara Ingram, he designed and wrote the curriculum for grades 9-12, developing high level vocalists who were in demand as college majors and minors.  Vocal majors were selected as members for Maryland All State Junior and Senior choirs, All Eastern Choirs, and All National Choral ensembles. Kyle's choral ensembles were consistently rated superior at District and State choral festivals.

 

While at Barbara Ingram, Kyle conducted a select women’s choir, Cantala, which was recognized for their musicality and musical abilities.  They were selected to sing at the Maryland Music Educators Association Conference, the New Jersey Music Educators Association Conference, and the ACDA All Eastern Division Conference in Baltimore. Kyle also conducted the Chamber Choir, which was a frequent collaborator with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Barbara Ingram Chamber Choir and Cantala regularly performed with the Symphony since the school's inception in 2009. The Barbara Ingram Choral ensembles had their first Carnegie Hall appearance singing under the direction of Eric Whitacre in the premiere of his new opera: “Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings” in 2010. In 2010 they also were invited to sing as the backup choir for Todd Rundgren’s fall tour in Philadelphia, which was subsequently released for DVD. Kyle’s choirs were invited to sing at the inauguration of Martin O’Malley, Governor of Maryland in 2011.  While at Barbara Ingram, Kyle was Music Director for the Spring Musical with annual attendance of over 4,000 patrons for the yearly event.

 

Kyle has been involved in musical theatre since high school, he has directed or music directed over 25 productions including regional premieres of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”.  As a performer Kyle has appeared on stage with Marvin Hamlisch, Julie Andrews, Elaine Stritch, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Dana Reeves, Barbara Cook, Sam Freed and David Masenheimer. Kyle has appeared on stage and in the pits of numerous musicals including: Follies in Concert (starring David Masenheimer and Sam Freed), Starmites, Bye Bye Birdie, Joseph...Dreamcoat, Guy and Dolls, The Baker’s Wife, My Favorite Year, and Pirates of Penzance, among others.  Music and stage direction credits include: Beauty & the Beast, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, A Night of Broadway - a Musical Revue, Willy Wonka Jr. (central PA premier), The Last Five Years, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, Legally Blonde, The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, The Little Mermaid (Disney), The Addams Family, Seussical, Peter Pan, Newsies, and Once on This Island.

 

Kyle has also taught piano and voice privately and served on the faculties at Shepherd University, Harrisburg Area Community College and Hagerstown Community College.  As guest conductor, Kyle has conducted The Maryland Symphony Orchestra, as well as honor choirs in Cumberland County (PA), Prince George’s County (MD), Allegany County (MD) Washington County (MD), Vermont (VT-ACDA).

 

Currently is a PhD Music Education student at Auburn University, Kyle attained a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Conducting from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music where he was awarded the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award for Young Career Achievement.  Kyle is also a graduate of the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute.
