Assessment in the Choral Classroom

Assessment is vital to any choral program.  If we aren't assessing our students every rehearsal, there is no way to plan for the next rehearsal, nor is there any way to fix mistakes that are occuring in the rehearsal.

In the choral classroom, assessment can be a daunting task, I've found that by using the following methods of assessment, I am able to assess students on a regular basis both as an ensemble as a whole, as well as in small groups, and individually.  Below, I will explain how I do each type of assessment.

Ensemble Assessment

By recording my ensemble multiple periods each week, I am able to go back and listen to the ensemble as a whole, and listen for mistakes that are occurring, as well as for sections of the music that are in need of polishing.

Small Group and Individual Assessments

For small group assessment I will use forms like the ones below.
